Drink a Bottled Soda Pop When It Is 100!

Last week, my mom and grandma came over from Enid (where my grandma lives) for the day. We decided to try to go someplace we had never been. So in 100 degree weather, we piled in the mini-van and traveled down Route 66 to Arcadia, USA! Our first stop, POPS. POPS opened last summer and is a difficult place to describe. It is basically a convenient store - you can buy gas there even. But it has a small dining area that is constantly busy that serves burgers and milkshakes and that sort of thing. The “cool” thing about it is that they have an enormous selection of bottled soda pop, all kinds of flavors, all kinds of brands.

You can get a 6-pack carrier and select 6 different bottles, or you can even get a case. Check out their selection of sodas - it is unbelievable. And Drew just had to have his bottle in a koozie, and he just had to sit next to “my Nan”! Notice the bottles that line the windows in the background.

The other “cool” feature of POPS is the 66-foot-tall soda bottle out front that lights up at night. BUT, alas, we did not get a pic of that (camera issues) but visit their website and you can see it. Mom did get this lovely pic of me and my almost 82-year-old grandma….

She’s almost 82, y’all!
After lunch, we moved down the road a piece to another Route 66 landmark, though this one a bit more historic - the Round Barn. The barn, originally built in 1898, is one of the few round barns in existence and has a fun renovation story you can read here.

Ryan and I actually attended a catered thank-you dinner there some years ago with our church. That was in November - it was much cooler then! But you can rent out this space…

Drew had fun taking pictures out of the windows up there with Nan’s camera. He was very proud to catch a picture of this “Coke truck” traveling down The Mother road…..well….it is a cold beverage!

We used to have something like that in Canada. It was called The Pop Shoppe. They had every flavour you could imagine and you could also mix them up. It was a nickel a bottle and 15 cents for the drinks. You got your nickels back if you returned the empty bottles. Ah, root beer and orange crush, cream soda and lime pop. Pepsi?? What’s that??
Looks like a fun day! We went to Pops back in March and the girls loved it. We didn’t get a chance to actually eat there, and it was late at night so the Round Barn was not open. We’ll have to go back. Isn’t it fun being home so we can make these types of memories with our kiddos?! I like the shot of Cooper’s “Coke” truck too. Hehe
