Breaking All the Rules
Aug 27th, 2008 by Jenn
As far as parenting goes, I think I’ve broken most of the rules of “good parenting.” Come now, let’s check:
Rule #8: Don’t let your children sleep with you.
Broke this one with both children - still am- check.
Rule #17: Don’t give in to whining.
Yep, broke it - check.
Rule #32: Don’t let your children eat dog food.
Oops - check.
Rule #39: When a child states “I promise”, don’t believe them.
Really? Check.
And rule # 62: Make your children eat what you eat. Do not make separate meals.
Break it every single night unless we order a pizza - and here are the photos to prove it…
Tonight I made this for me and Ryan…
Then I cooked some other pasta with sauce warmed-up from last week for Drew…
Then I did this pasta in the microwave for Cooper…
But we all ate pasta, does that count?
And I’m a group leader for parenting classes! Ha ha ha ha! Hee hee hee hee! Ho ho ho ho!

So funny! I think I’ve broken them all too. Except mine ate cat food instead of dog food. =)
Sorry, the pasta thing is out the window. You definitely provided three separate meals there little Missy. Might I add to the list? When it’s time to throw out the blankie, just do it, don’t cut off a piece and let them hold on to it. Oh and here’s my personal favourite that I don’t think I’ve ever followed myself, when you say there is going to be a consequence, there really should be a consequence. God didn’t fake anyone out. I love the way you think and thanks for admitting you’re not a PERFECT mom, just a perfect mom.
What about rule #77? You know the one about chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.
Really. If it’s not Oreo’s and milk, it’s not breakfast. One of the first things I ever cooked for my wife was Kraft Mac and cheese because she was laid up in bed sick. Now, being a newlywed former bachelor, I had been watching my wife cook, and learning how spices can really make a meal so much better! So, I thought, “hey! I know! I’ll add garlic powder!”
Let me just say from that experience I learned 2 things:
1. You don’t add garlic powder to everything.
2. You can make a second batch of Kraft Mac and cheese really fast!
